I think its time they updated the Melton Area and install another exchange in the Kurunjang region, ADSL2+ support in this area is hopepless with 1.5M the max due to cable length to exchange, and being a fast growing population with all the new estates, i think its time they (telstra) invest in building another exchange that will service these new estates rather then having the whole shire of melton run on one exchange, its very unfair to all these surrounding suburbs of Melton such as Kurunjang, thoroughbred etc to suffer such a loss. You would of thought they would of atleast thought about all this infrastructure before the new estates were built. Tsk tsk wake up telstra this is becoming pathetic, Currently im living in Keilor Downs and thats a well built area and we only got ADSL2+ not long ago, and im just under 4kms to the st albans exchange and i achieve a max of 8mb's but poor kurunjang can only achieve 1.5M and thats adsl2+. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT TELSTRA, I HAVE A RIGHT TO HAVE A SAY, I HAVE SHARES WITH YOU PEOPLE (WHAT A WASTE)

Here is a news flash, phone exchanges are designed to give you a PHONE LINE. You currently have a phone line, so why would Telstra want to outlay massive amounts of money, to sell you the exact same phone you are getting now?

If you are a share holder then you are the peson that wouldn't want them to install a new exchange, and here is why.

To install a new exchange would cost hundreds of thousends of dollars, possibly millions of dollars. New land, building exchange, re-cabling the entire area, staff costs. All this to provide you the same phone line you have today. Outlaying 6-7 figures to achieve a net result of 0 would make all shareholders extremely unhappy to say the least.

Who should you be angry at? Well probably not Telstra as much as i don't like to defend Telstra. If you are in a new estate then you really should be angry at the developers. A lot of estates these days they are installing fibre to the home because the price of installing fibre is getting so low.

having moved out here last dec im also run into this problem in Melton West.
while you were so quick to defend telstra and shoot down the idea of a new exchange, you didnt come up with a single option for what should be done to fix the problem.

melton is getting heaps bigger and im so frustrated with less then adsl1 speeds.
and every month more and more people will be running into this problem as im by no means the furthers from the exchange.
what hope is there for us to get fast internet other then a new exchange to north melton suburbs?

Installing RIMs is one solution, the NBN is another solution.
