Hi,

My townhouse is being built amongst 6 others on a large block previously occupied by one house, since demolished. It sits 557m (by cable) from the ferntree gully FTGY exchange (according to the address lookup).

Can I request that a single ULL copper pair be run to my townhouse? I am guessing not, but was just wondering. I doubt telstra would set up a RIM just to service 7 houses. Given the seemingly short distance from the exchange, we might be lucky.. but I was just wondering.

cheers for any help,
regards,
kieran

If you are that close to the exchange it would be surprising to not get copper.

If you order Naked DSL (through whoever you want to go with) that is provided over ULL so it will be a copper line, but unfortunately there aren't any ADSL2+ providers where you are at the moment.

cheers

Thanks for the info. Sounds promising then, if "close proximity" to the exchange is directly proportional to likelihood of getting copper!

Now I just have to pray that some competition comes to the Ferntree Gully exchange! Come on! Optus/Agile, TPG, iiNet, Primus, I don't care! I just want non-bigpond options! :)

There is probably some extra copper in the street Telstra can splice into. You will probably get your own two pair feed from a distribution frame in the premises; they may run a 10 pair from the street to feed it.

If you are lucky it's a big fat old cable that runs past your place and at that distance you would get almost full speed.
