Interesting to see Bigpond now has permission to turn on around 900 regional exchanges without having to wholesale the service like they do with normal ADSL. |

And with this, a large percentage of them will not have any added benefits as they will cap the speeds at 8mb. Just another attempt to make money from the vulnerable. |

DragonHost writes.. And with this, a large percentage of them will not have any added benefits as they will cap the speeds at 8mb. Dunno, people would be closer to the exchange regionally, so many could get faster than 8mbit through bigpond. Of course it would be better value for them to get an 8mbit plan from any other ISP. DragonHost writes.. Just another attempt to make money from the vulnerable. Hopefully those that do join up to Bigpond ADSL2+ don't get a plan with excess charges. The 600MB plan could be very expensive for some people. |

my local exchange has had adsl2+ equipment in it for a while (tel$tra of course). Optus has been trying to gain access to provision there hardware bit tel$tra wont let them in. So my exchange may very well now be active for Bigpond ADSL2+... Unfortunately, its not an option for me. I'll wait till a WA based ISP is active here. I'd rather keep money in an ISP still located here than tel$tra. my 5c. |

About the only way to find out is enter your phone number on bigpond's website. They have ADSL2+ on my exchange but it won't tempt me. |

I reckon that they are going to stall it for as long as they can. Because for each day adsl2 is enable at more exchanges they are losing money because of there highly unreasonable prices. |

The prices are reasonable for some regional area's. Telstra wouldn't be losing money with ADSL2+ providers. SSS lines means you still pay line rental, and they would still make money from ULL. |

Telstra has not even enabled ADSL2 at Bald Hills exchange in Brisbane, so its all a bit academic to me. Right now I can get a better deal and higher speeds on wireless. |

-db- writes.. About the only way to find out is enter your phone number on bigpond's website. Doesn't work too well, or I'm reading it wrong. If you use this tool, it states if your exchange is ADSL enabled or not, but doesn't indicate if it is ADSL2+ enabled. The only thing I can think of is to try it again with a known ph number for an ADSL2+ enabled exchange and see what it reports. ------------ OK 10 mins later I checked a Sydney ph number in Carlton and it did report ADSL2+ availability. So if it reports ADSL then that's all you've got. If it reports ADSL2+ then whoopie! Looks like I'm on a waiting list and will be forever before ADSL2+ is enabled in our town. |

Starting a list is probably a good idea. Maybe create a new thread and people can add exchanges that are enabled. |

Harry Buttle writes.. according to Telstra countrywide Hobart, ADSL2+ has a shorter range from the exchange than ADSL1 Generally ADSL2+ reaches around 2.5KM so if you are more than around 2.5KM from the exchange, you will get faster speeds on uncapped ADSL1 than you will on ADSL2+. |

Tel$tra are trying to tempt me with an $89 pm offer, Line Rental, ADSL2+, Unlimited Locals, 75c STD. Not sure what the maximum speed is. One part of the BP Website says yes to ADSL2+, another part just says ADSL. What do you reckon? |
