Pleased to inform that after half a year of haggling with AAPT and getting spin of unbelievable verbal diahorea, I have found an ADSL2 provider (beagle.com.au) who according to the advert in APC magazine provide to 1400 other exchanges.
I have also given AAPT the flick as my phone provider and after considering the $20 budget line rental deal with Telstra and its severe restrictions not to use the line for any sharing, and NOT to use bypass codes, I was able to get an equitable and unrestricted home-phone service with WESTNET for a cost of $24 per month.
SO now I am free of any contracts and wait with bated breath for NAKED DSL.
Though I am told you have to buy a landline before you can cancell it ($77 from Telstra)
The continued arrogance of Tesltra w.r.t. local phones, mobiles and now ADSL2 in my region is breath taking, as they act like a monopoly in an IT world folding around them.
I note the comment also about AAPT about to merge with Vodaphone and Hutchissons. no loss to the IT world.

Finally MYNETPHONE has cropped my long distance phone account from $1400 p.a. to $99 p.a. and I have a DID number and a spare line.
I also finance my childrens VOPI on same account and we use about 80 long distance calls per month collectively, enhanced now by Beagles provision of ADSL2 at Hamilton. cheers.
